The AMS RMX 16 is one of the most legendary reverbs in recording history. It shaped the sound of the 1980s and changed how producers used reverb forever. Developed by Advanced Music Systems (AMS) in England, it brought digital reverb into a new creative era. As a result, it became a favorite tool in studios around the world.

A Revolution in Reverb Design

The RMX 16 introduced flexible and musical algorithms that were easy to control. Producers could now create unique, modern spaces that stood apart from natural room reverbs. Its most famous preset, NonLin 2 gated reverb, became an instant classic. You can hear it on countless hits — most famously Phil Collins’ “In the Air Tonight.”The sound is bold, punchy, and instantly recognizable. Because of this, the RMX 16 became a standard choice for snares, toms, and drum rooms. It worked equally well for rock, pop, and synth-based productions, giving every mix extra depth and energy.

Captured as Authentic Impulse Responses

At Nevo Studios, we captured the true character of our original RMX 16 using high-resolution Impulse Responses (IRs). Instead of relying on emulations, we recorded every setting directly from the real hardware. This ensures that every IR delivers the same tone, diffusion, and clarity as the classic unit. In addition, the collection includes the iconic NonLin 2 gated reverb, plus lush halls, plates, and reverse programs. Therefore, you can bring the unmistakable sound of the AMS RMX 16 into your own sessions with perfect accuracy.

Bring the 80s Sound Into Your Mix

Today, these IRs make it easy to add that unmistakable 1980s atmosphere to your productions. Whether you’re mixing modern drums, ambient guitars, or cinematic synths, these studio-grade impulse responses provide authentic depth and punch. In short, the AMS RMX 16 remains one of the most musical and inspiring reverbs ever created — and with Nevo Studios’ Impulse Response Collection, you can experience its power in your own mixes.
