AKG BX15 Reverb IR – The Character of a True 80s Classic
The AKG BX15 Reverb IR collection from Nevo Studios captures the sound of one of the most unique spring reverbs of its era. Built in the early 1980s, the BX15 was part of AKG’s legendary BX series and quickly became known for its smooth, musical stereo response. Using a technology called the Torsional Transmission Line (TTL) principle, it produced a tone unlike anything else — rich, focused, and deeply organic.
A Distinctive Analog Sound
Unlike typical spring reverbs, the BX15 delivers a clean and full-bodied sound with very little metallic resonance. As a result, it became a favorite among engineers who wanted the liveliness of a spring without harsh overtones. The BX15 adds space and dimension without overpowering the source. In addition, its reverb tail feels lush yet controlled, creating a natural stereo depth that blends easily in any mix.
Captured with Precision at Nevo Studios
At Nevo Studios, we recorded our original BX15 through the Amek/Neve analog console and ATC reference monitors to preserve every detail of its tone. Therefore, each impulse response (IR) captures the warmth, clarity, and spatial character that make the BX15 so special. Multiple settings were sampled to create a range of decay times and tonal variations. Consequently, you can easily tailor the reverb for piano, guitar, vocals, or percussion.
The BX15 works beautifully across many sources. We often use it on piano, grand piano, and electric guitar. However, it also enhances drums, percussion, and even ambient textures. Its versatility and smooth decay make it a valuable tool for any mix that needs vintage character with modern precision.
A Timeless Reverb Reborn
In short, the AKG BX15 Reverb IR pack brings the warmth and clarity of this 1980s classic into today’s digital workflow. It combines authentic analog depth with a wide stereo image and subtle movement. Perfect for producers and sound designers, it delivers the rich, musical tone that has made the BX15 a timeless studio favorite.
