Hi-Gain NAM Captures Vol. 1 – created for modern metal intensity
At Nevo Studios, the goal was to build a collection of NAM captures that deliver the impact, accuracy, and aggression of real high-gain amplifiers. Hi-Gain NAM Captures Vol. 1 is aimed at metal guitarists who need tight, production-ready tones with clarity and authority in demanding mixes. Each capture offers a carefully balanced combination of weight, definition, and detail straight from the start.
Developed together with Kim Wiklund
This first release in our NAM series was developed in close collaboration with guitarist Kim Wiklund from Orecus and Monoscream. We captured and refined 6 high-gain amp heads, each paired with 5 different cabinets, resulting in 46 individual NAM captures. This approach ensures that every tone locks naturally into dense metal productions and blends effortlessly across layered rhythm guitars.
Every amplifier was dialed in at its optimal tonal range, focusing on tight low end, focused midrange, and controlled highs. The collection spans a wide range of gain structures, covering everything from precise modern metal articulation to heavier death and thrash-inspired tones.
Captured through real analog signal paths
All NAM captures were created at Nevo Studios using our Amek/Neve analog console and monitored through ATC reference speakers. This process preserves the depth, punch, and harmonic richness of the original amplifiers. The recording chain included microphones such as Shure SM57, Sennheiser MD421, Neumann U47, Royer 121, along with several other dynamic and condenser options. Each mic and cabinet pairing was carefully evaluated to achieve the most authentic and powerful result.
The outcome is a set of Neural Amp Modeler captures that reflect the true character of high-gain amplifiers pushed to their sweet spot, with a clear understanding of how heavy guitars need to sit in a mix.
Built for practical production workflows
Every NAM capture was tested in real studio environments to ensure consistent and reliable performance. Gain staging, EQ balance, and dynamics were adjusted so the tones work immediately without additional tweaking. Whether used for tracking or reamping directly in your DAW, these captures translate smoothly and predictably.
