AKG BX20

Made in the late 60s early 70s designed to produce a natural reverberation impersonating the sound of some of the finest concert halls. Big, Dense and complex sound with only the slightest hint of spring-like wobble. The lack of a sonic signature of a room or hall makes it very usefull on both drums and vocals to create a unique space. The BX20 is a true classic spring reverb also used today by artists like White Stripes, Kings of Leon and Black Keys etc etc.

AKG BX15

In the early 80s AKG made one of the best sounding stereo spring reverbs ever made based on a technology called Torsional Transmission Line principle (TTL) which gave the BX range a unique texture and sound. We use the BX15 mostly on piano, grand piano and electric guitar but works on more or less everything including drums and percussion.

EMT 140

The first Plate reverb, a piece of history from Elektromesstechnik (EMT) 140 made in mono 1957 and in stereo 1961. EMT in its day was by far the most popular developer and manufacturer of artificial reverb solutions for the recording industry. Dense, with heavy diffusion — wonderful, warm, open, and natural. Not necessarily like a room, yet it has room-like qualities.

Stocktronics RX4000

A swedish Plate reverberation design by Lars “Stockis” Liljeryd”, around 250 units ever made. Its an unique piece of gear with an unique sound. The stainless steel plate is only 0,3mm thick which makes it very bright and brings tons of character to a mix, we use it alot to bring a dark sounding vibe to an arrangement by rolling off its brightness.

Fairchild model 658

Made in the 1960s with three individual 662 Fairchild solid state preamps, transformer isolated input & output along with three individual spring tanks the sound gets Warm, deep, and lush. Great on vocals, guitars and almost all acoustic instruments. Ends up on most of our mixes here at Nevo Studios.

Reverbsystem 9

A swedish mono spring reverb made in the mid 80s from what then became the EBS bass amp company.  Our impulses are made of two units to make a true stereo print. These springs are one of a kind and if you want to make sure you have a unique sonic signature you just have to try this one out.

Master Room XL-305

This spring reverb from the MicMix Audio company came out in 1979 described as the “The acoustic chamber synthesizer”. It is a dual channel unit with different decay times giving it a rich tone. Exhibits no unwanted side effects as boing, twang and flutter as many short spring unit has. It’s as natural as a chamber itself, a very smooth sounding spring reverb even for percussion and drums. If you ever record vocals with an RCA ribbon microphone for that smooth vintage sound the XL-305 adds another level of magic.

Master Room Super C

Another excellent, long spring reverb made in Dallas USA in the early 60s. Inputs and outputs are transformer balanced and it is a very rare unit. The springs measure 100cm and 78cm, some people say it sounds better than the AKG BX20 some say not. Its a different thing, still a beast in our opinion, works on everything.

EMT 240

Another classic reverb from Elektromesstechnik (EMT) that needs no introduction. It uses an electroplated foil of pure 24 carat gold measuring 27×29 cm and is super thin. A rather small unit being a plate reverb but the sound is rich and luxurious, simply amazing. It is always connected to our console here at Nevo Studios.

AMS RMX 16

AMS was established in 1976 by the Aerospace engineers Mark Crabtree and Stuart Nevison. 1981, they released the RMX-16 digital reverberator which defined the sound of the 1980s and been heard in pop and rock music ever since. By the mid 1980s, nearly every major studio had an RMX 16. It practically defined the drum sound of the era with the huge drums of Phil Collins “In the Air Tonight”.

Master Room MR-III

Another Master Room ”tower”.
The length of the reverb is around five seconds which is a bit longer than its rival, The Great British Spring. What makes the Master Room reverbs unique are the springs timings. They are “equally-tempered” following a log progression that is very similar to the musical scale which makes them not only smooth and rich but extremely musical and diffuse sounding, not ”boing” like other spring reverbs that only have one spring or springs of equal length.

Master Room MR-IV

MicMix´s highest ”tower”
The MR IV is also an impressive dual chamber unit, over 140cm (57 inches) tall made in the 70s. It has a decay time of 7 seconds! two seconds longer than the MR III which also means that those springs are really long and needs to be tuned carefully. Nevo Studios have probably one of the best sounding MR IV around and we are happy to give you the opportunity to use this cool sounding reverb in your productions.

Master Room XL-515

MicMix Dallas Texas U.S.A
The MicMix Master Room XL-515 spring reverb system was made for music studios in the early 80s. These rare outboard reverb units are super cool and rich sounding, more like a plate than a traditional spring. It is made with three dual spring chambers, digitally controlled with the presets Plate, Room and Hall. All presets gives you rich musical tails. And with some EQ you can adjust the tone of the reverb to give you unique sounds. Reshaping the original sound with the wet knob all the way without getting cold, harsh or diffuse like many other reverb plugins.

The Great British Spring

Made in England by Bandive in the -80s. This is the famous MK II version in gray. Spring reverbs have a reputation of ”twangs” and ”boings” but the two sets of triple springs in this unit are much longer than the ones found in more conventional systems. With almost no electronics in the audio chain it makes the sound wide and deep with subtile boings. The fixed decay time may be seen as a restriction, however we have made some supplementary longer reverb tails with the Roland Space Echo to get some really nice vibe, making it even more useful. Everything you run through this reverb will sound awesome!

Monacor REV-25 & Melos Delay Chamber

Here we present a combination of two units from the -70s. A rare vintage portable spring reverb combined with a super rare cartridge tape delay from Japan. The spring is lo-fi and highly favoured by the dub and electronic music scene. Along with an extended lo-fi delay tail from the Melos it gets very interesting and more usable for studio use. The imperfections of the cartridge tape, smears out the ”boing” effect of the spring and can be used to glue things together in a very pleasing way. At Nevo Studios we use this combination on vintage drum machines, guitars, backing vocals, organs when we want a sound from the past.
